Treatment types

Dry eye therapy should match the cause of symptoms.

Burning, gritty, watery, or fluctuating vision can come from different causes. A dry eye visit helps the doctor decide whether light-based treatment, drops, lid care, plugs, or another option makes sense.

IPL - intense pulsed light

IPL is used around the eyelids to help calm inflammation that can affect the meibomian glands. Healthier gland function can support a more stable tear film.

Radiofrequency with IPL

Radiofrequency may be paired with IPL to warm eyelid tissues and support gland function. It may also have cosmetic skin-firming benefits for some patients.

LLLT - low-level light therapy

Low-level light therapy is used to support tissue repair, reduce inflammation, and improve cellular function. Treatment settings may vary based on the goal.

What it may help

Meibomian gland dysfunction is a common dry eye driver.

The oil glands along the eyelids help slow tear evaporation. When those glands are blocked or inflamed, tears can evaporate too quickly and leave eyes feeling dry, watery, gritty, or tired.

Plan for a series

Patients who are candidates for IPL or related light therapy may need multiple sessions for best results. Your doctor will explain timing, expected comfort, and whether other dry eye treatments should be combined.
